Why is handfasting so popular?

In recent months, nearly all of my couples have requested handfasting as part of their wedding ceremony.

Everybody wants to 'tie the knot' with this beautiful symbolic ritual

But, I was wondering why it has boomed in popularity recently. Here are my thoughts....

Our response to chaos

We are living in a time of social and political unrest. At times, it can seem we are reigned by chaos and injustice.

Symbolic rituals, such as handfasting, offer an antidote to this; a moment of calm, something meaningful and special. It engages our touch sense in an increasingly fragmented digital world.

Handfasting could be seen as a rejection of patriarchal structures which dictated so many wedding traditions. Now more than ever, it’s becoming clear that the patriarchy hurts humans of all genders.

Handfasting is inclusive; two people joining together in partnership.

Getting back to our roots

Handfasting originates from Celtic and Pagan rituals...which celebrate nature, respect for the elements, and our place on this planet.

In a time of environmental crisis, it makes sense that we are seeking to reconnect with the natural beauty of our world.

This summer I am looking forward to hosting handfasting in Manchester, Yorkshire, and at weddings across the North West.

If you are looking for a Manchester celebrant to host your handfasting ceremony, that's me! I specialise in uplifting, inclusive handfasting and wedding ceremonies in Manchester.
